Passing of Mr. Peter MacLaurin

It is with heavy hearts that we inform you of the passing of Mr. Peter MacLaurin, who has been involved in municipal politics in Morin-Heights since 1980. The last council meeting he attended as a municipal councillor, during which he gave a farewell speech, took place on October 1.

Mr. MacLaurin championed many causes that were dear to him, including our local heritage, the municipal library, public education, and the English language. He was chairman of the organizing committee for our municipality’s 150th anniversary. He was also involved in the community through the elementary school as a commissioner with the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board and with Trinity Anglican Church.

Mr. MacLaurin was a straightforward, honest, simple, and kindhearted man. Municipal employees enjoyed his butter cookies for many years, and the luckiest ones were sometimes treated to a bottle of maple syrup that he produced on his property!

We are grateful to have benefited from his wisdom, passion, and love for Morin-Heights for so many years. We offer our condolences to his entire family. In his honour and memory, the municipal flag will be flown at half-mast in the village entrance park for the next few days.
