Running for office

Choosing a position

In municipal elections, there are two types of seats: mayor and councillor. In Morin-Heights, councillor seats are associated with a number. You may consult the council members list and the council’s role for more details.

You need to choose the seat you want to run for before applying. You cannot run for several seats at once.

Eligibility

To run as a candidate, you must have the right to be entered or be enterd on the list of electors of the municipality.

You must therefore comply with the following criteria on election day:

Be 18 years of age or older;
Be a Canadian citizen;
Not have lost your election rights;
You must also meet one of the following two conditions on election day:

Be domiciled on the territory of the municipality and for at least six months in the province of Québec;
Own a building or occupy a business establishment located on the territory of the municipality for at least 45 days.
