The Municipality of Morin-Heights has been recognized as an “Eco-conscious Municipality” for its commitment and actions in favour of conserving natural environments, protecting biodiversity, and promoting ecological connectivity.

Morin-Heights, September 17th, 2025 - The Municipality of Morin-Heights has been granted an “Eco-conscious Municipality” certification under the "Municipalité-Éco-connectée" Program set up by the organization "Éco-corridors laurentiens". This distinction confirms the Municipality’s commitment to land-use planning, which recognizes the importance of conserving natural environments, protecting biodiversity, and ensuring ecological connectivity through the implementation of concrete actions and the adoption of appropriate regulatory measures.

The Municipality of Morin-Heights has carried out several conservation actions, including:

 Creation of the Sheldon Nature Reserve;
 Creation of the new Jackson Nature Reserve (official status);
 Addition of a conservation land target to the 30% urban plan;
 Earth Day activities (tree planting with CPE and elementary school);
 Water Month, with "OBV de la Rivière du Nord", shoreline cleanup at Lummis Park;
 Municipal workshops on Environment Day;
 Various communications in Info Morin-Heights about eco-responsibility;
 Signed an agreement with "Éco-corridors laurentiens" (ECL), providing financial assistance for the project to install cameras to identify potential wildlife corridors (several municipalities).

In September 2025, “Éco-corridors laurentiens” launched the “Municipalité Éco-connectée” (MEC) Program, a support program for municipalities. The program is based on voluntary participation and involves a strong commitment by municipalities to ecological connectivity, aiming to strengthen the protection of ecological corridors and conservation cores within the Laurentian region.
