Colleagues and community leaders gathered for the volunteer cocktail party at City Hall to pay tribute and say farewell to Maryse Emond, the energetic and popular Director of Recreation and Culture, who is leaving Morin-Heights to pursue a new career.

Mayor Tim Watchorn spoke of the dynamism and dedication Maryse brought to the various positions she held during her fourteen years with the municipality, and on behalf of the assembly wished her happiness and success in the future.

The Morin Height’s mixed Softball league plays at the Legion’s field every Tuesday & Thursday in the summer months.

The perfect summer weather on July 1st attracted a record crowd, from far and wide, to Ski Morin Heights which was again the venue for the annual Canada Day celebrations.

Lineups began early before the gates opened. Word has spread that Trinity Church’s famous strawberry social is a treat not to be missed: generous helpings of perfect berries—topped off with real whipped cream

As always, the local Red Hat ladies added colour and elegance with their colourful costumes.

This fun for the entire family day, the town’s usual theme for Canada Day, featured long-established favourites: face-painting, water-play area, giant inflatable structures for jumping on, the egg toss, clowns, a magician, face painting, pony rides, Heather McNabb’s highland dancers and a petting zoo. Most kids dream of sitting behind the wheel of a police cruiser or a huge red fire truck and our local police and firefighters were on hand to make these dreams come true.

Throughout the afternoon and evening there was great live music by first The Roosters and then Meredith and the Soul Marshalls. After the sun went down, Morin Heights Mayor Tim Watchhorn took the stage briefly to pay tribute to all the many volunteers and sponsors who, once again, made Canada Day in Morin Heights very special.

This signalled the start of the annual firework show that could be seen, and heard, all over the Laurentians—probably the best in the province.

The Soul Marshalls then returned to the stage and entertained the jubilant and receptive crowd until the early hours of the morning.
