More than just a library

The library has been operating since July 1997 and has been at its actual location since the fall of 2000. It is run by volunteers.

The library is part the Regional Service Centre for Public Libraries, locally referred to as Réseau BIBLIO des Laurentides, which provides products and services related to the operation of our library, including professional, collection and computer support. Morin-Heights figures among its 60 affiliated members.

The private collection of books in our library totals just over 5 700 books, which is boosted by the addition of 5 000 books from Réseau BIBLIO des Laurentides for a total collection of just over 10 700 books in both French and English. Of the books on loan from Réseau BIBLIO, a rotation of 800 books from their collection is made twice a year, that is 1 600 books removed and replaced with a new supply every year. The library displays a great selection of children’s books and has a large children’s corner designed especially for them.

Being part of this network has additional advantages. Morin-Heights library has access to 350 000 books through Réseau BIBLIO. If members do not find a book on the shelves, they can ask the librarian to reserve one through the inter-library lending system. Once ordered, the book will be sent to the Morin-Heights library within a few weeks. Members can order as many times as they like, and the service is free of charge.

Books on the best sellers list are not loaned between libraries for the first year, but Morin-Heights actively purchases its own best sellers. Make a request for a book; the librarians do their best to accommodate members.

Volunteering: many ways to help
The library is staffed by volunteer workers who can always use more help. What can you do to help? Lots of things! Volunteering at the library does not necessarily mean working behind the desk. One can simply:

  • shelve, return, or help cover books;
  • join the Story Time team
  • give time to deliver books for the Books on Wheels Program
  • and your most important contribution: joining the library!
